Google demotes its own Chrome browser search rankings

Google has been caught out after the site was caught breaking its own rules by paying bloggers to write posts promoting it’s web browser, Google Chrome. Google have said it will manually change its search rankings to ‘demote’ its own Chrome web browser for two months.

As of today, the Chrome download page has a publicly reported pagerank of 0/10. According to Google, the pagerank will remain lowered for a period of 60 days.

The Google PageRank system is the key to Google’s search algorithm – the lower a site’s number, the lower it will usually rank in Google searches.
