With all the latest scandals in the news about leaked photos and information from Apple’s iCloud, it really makes you wonder how private our online presence and other aspects of our lives are.

A few weeks ago compromising photos of several big name celebrities where leaked online for the whole world to see. The hacker claimed that it was possible because of a weak link in Apple’s iCloud security system. This begs the question to how secure our personal information and property is online. Not only this, but where else is our privacy being breeched by other technology.

The silver lining of “Not provided”

Google analytics has for many years supplied website owners and SEO companies with in-depth information about the performance of their websites. Recently however Google has changed the way they collate the information and for anyone who is logged into a Google account they no longer record the keyword data. What this means is that we can tell that these people have come to a site via search engines however we cannot tell what keyword they have typed in to get there. The number of “not provided” visits has risen gradually and now means on average over 70% of the search engine visits that a website receives will be “not provided”.

Pinning your hopes on the next big thing

I met a futurologist once who was deeply embarrassed about his job title, but provided a fascinating hour-long chat on trend-spotting.

He said identifying the next big thing was as much down to probability and predictability than a sixth sense. You look at current trends and how they are evolving for an insight into what might happen next.

I likened his role to BBC’s Tomorrow’s World programme, which served up a tantalising glimpse into the future that in hindsight was not always very accurate. But he shook his head and claimed to be far more conservative in his predictions than the BBC show ever was.

A starring role for The Studio 4

On Saturday, The Studio 4 became the main focus for a photo shoot, showing off our fantastic new Faber EOS roller blinds that were installed earlier in January.

Having moved into our new third floor offices in September last year, we were in desperate need for our new blinds due to the sun coming in and glaring all our screens from lunchtime every day.

Faber’s EOS system solved our problem, as it’s flexible enough to be adapted to a wide range of styles and sizes and in our case was fitted to twenty large and four small windows. This included in our boardroom, which had to have the blackout option installed to make our presentations come alive.
